Who is the Mahan Tantric? The Mahan Tantric of White Tantra Yoga, the Siri Singh Sahib, aka Yogi Bhajan, is a Master of Kundalini Yoga, the Yoga
of Awareness, and a dedicated and inspired teacher. Since arriving
in the United States in 1969, he has dedicated himself to bringing
dignity, grace, and the meaning of Spirit into the lives of people
everywhere, especially those people who have become lost and confused
through the use of drugs. There is only one Mahan Tantric, i.e., Master of White Tantra Yoga, at any given time. White Tantric Yoga was a tradition passed only from teacher to student in a mystical and selective way.
"Since ancient times, humans have found that they have zillions of thoughts, billions of feelings, millions of emotions, thousands of desires, hundreds of fantasies, and a multitude of realities and personalities. We do everything to get rid of this pressure, because it is eating us up inside. We try every method available, but ultimately, our mind and thoughts rule us and bog us down." Breaking the centuries old tradition of secrecy surrounding the empowering science of Kundalini Yoga, he began teaching it publicly. With the yogic sciences of yoga, meditation, yogic philosophy, and loving acceptance, he gave the soon to be called "Baby Boomers" an effective alternative to the prevalent drug culture. He called it the "3HO" (Healthy, Happy, Holy) way of life. From humble beginnings, teaching first at the East West Cultural Center and then in a student's furniture store in West Hollywood, "The Yogi" was like a magnet. Students flocked to his classes. Soon he was teaching at colleges and universities, including Claremont and UCLA, and accepting invitations to teach in other cities. In July of 1969 the non-profit 3HO Foundation (Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization) was incorporated in California. 3HO's service to humanity is through Kundalini Yoga, meditation and the Science of Humanology which improves physical well being, as well as deepening spiritual awareness.
Under
his guidance as Director of Spiritual Education, 3HO mushroomed worldwide,
to 300 centers in 35 countries. In 1994 3HO became a member of the
United Nations as a Non-Governmental-Organization (NGO) in Consultative
Status (Roster) with the Economic and Social Council, representing
women's issues, promoting human rights and providing education in
alternative systems of medicine.
Yogi Bhajan became the Mahan Tantric (only living Master of White Tantra Yoga)
in 1971. He conducted White Tantra Yoga workshops in cities around the world. In 1987
he transferred these workshops to videotape, calling them "Renew
to be New" Courses, which continue to be held worldwide.
The Mahan Tantric Yogi Bhajan, Ph.D., is also a gifted Doctor of Psychology, counselor and yogic therapist. The counseling methodology called "The Science of Humanology," helps people realize there inner strength and well being by giving them practical tools to utilize with an every day lifestyle. White Tantra Yoga White Tantra Yoga is a powerful meditation practice that clears the subconscious mind, allowing prosperity, success, and happiness to flow freely into your life. It is an ancient and unique yogic science that accelerates your spiritual growth by dissolving deep-rooted, subconscious blocks through the direction of a facilitator and the energy of Yogi Bhajan, the Mahan Tantric. Yogi Bhajan created the White Tantra Yoga video series of 126 courses over 17 years. He said they were our greatest asset and gave very specific direction that they could still be used after he left his physical body. White Tantra Yoga will continue each year under the guidance of appointed facilitators. All levels of yoga students can participate in White Tantra Yoga; there are no prerequisites. Beginners as well as more experienced meditators will tune into their internal strength and enjoy a deep and sometimes challenging meditative experience. Envision the energy of the Universe as both parallel and perpendicular in nature, like a cloth woven together. As a cloth becomes stronger when it is stretched on the diagonal, so the White Tantra Yoga diagonal, or ‘Z’ energy is stronger. This energy, when directed by the Mahan Tantric, cuts through the blocks that are stuck in the subconscious mind. Using the diagonal energy, the Mahan Tantric Yogi Bhajan, connects his subtle body to the subtle bodies of the participants through the course facilitator. This works the same way as a worldwide telephone system that relies on satellites and electromagnetic energy in order to connect two parties. The music and mantras included in White Tantra Yoga were specifically selected by Yogi Bhajan, and aid and support the process. White Tantra Yoga should not be confused with Black or Red Tantra Yoga. Those forms of yoga also transform energy, but in a different way and for different purposes. Black Tantra directs the energy to manipulate another human being and Red Tantra Yoga directs the energy solely for sexual purposes. What to Expect White Tantra Yoga is done in pairs as a group meditation. Participants sit facing a partner and follow instructions for meditation given on a video by the Mahan Tantric, Yogi Bhajan. A representative of the Mahan Tantric will be present to facilitate White Tantra Yoga. The original facilitators were chosen personally by Yogi Bhajan from members of his staff. Since his passing, they use the profile he created for choosing new facilitators. Currently all White Tantra Yoga facilitators have studied personally with Yogi Bhajan. The facilitator’s role is one of ensuring that the methodology given by Yogi Bhajan is carried out, and to help participants maximize their experience. Each workshop consists of approximately 6 - 8 kriyas. A kriya is a meditation incorporating: 1.) a yoga posture (asana) or hand position (mudra), 2.) a breathing technique (pranayama) and/or a mental focus and/or a mantra. Sometimes the kriyas are accompanied by music. These kriyas vary in length up to 62 minutes. There are breaks between each kriya. The environment is peaceful and the atmosphere is friendly, supportive, and uplifting. A vegetarian lunch is provided. What to Bring and Wear 1.) Loose, comfortable, white clothing, preferably in natural fibers (they conduct energy and breathe easier). 2.) White cotton head covering that completely covers the head and will stay on securely during exercises with movement. 3.) Blanket or sheepskin to sit on and a light blanket to cover yourself with during relaxation periods. A firm cushion to sit on can be helpful for those with tighter hips. What Not to Bring and Wear a.) The Tantra Shelter is a scent-free environment. Do not wear or bring perfumes, essential oils, or sprays. b.) Intoxicants of any kind are prohibited. "MAHAN" as in MAHAN TANTRIC is a Sanskrit word meaning principle, supreme, great, or high. "TANTRIC" as in WHITE TANTRIC, is a Sanskrit word meaning THE PERSON who weaves together, as in weaving together the physical and the spiritual, as in joining together the human and the divine. "TANTRA" as in WHITE TANTRA, is a Sanskrit word meaning THE PRACTICE of weaving together. "WHITE" as in WHITE TANTRA YOGA, connotes a practice leading to self-mastery, meaning under one's inner control as opposed to "Black Tantra Yoga", i.e., a practice leading to remote or outside control. "YOGA" as in WHITE TANTRA YOGA, means union. So, by definition, "THE MAHAN TANTRIC" (Yogi Bhajan), is the PERSON who facilitates "WHITE TANTRA YOGA", the PRACTICE. COMMENTARY Sat Nam. When I was in high school and college in India, I understood Tantra as a form of education related to Yoga practice involving mantras, meditation, rituals and ancient Indian beliefs and practices. I had studied Sanskrit in school and I recall my Sanskrit teacher explained to us that "Tantra" is a divinely knowledge to worship God and also told us that Tantra practice requires prerequisites of initiation and sanctification of body, mind and soul. "Tantric", I was told means one who has the knowledge of Tantra. I agree with the definition as herein described. On the question of "Mahan", it is widely used in Indian languages and referrs to Great One, Master, Grand, Saint, Mighty, Heavenly and someone with psychic powers. This is also a Sanskrit word. In Persian, it means beautiful, glowing, radiant, etc. "Maha" is another word used to denote the same meaning as "Mahan". Regarding Tantra Yoga practice; again when I was in India; I heard about three different kinds of Tantra Yogas -- namely White Tantra, Red Tantra and Black Tantra. White Tantra Yoga involves purifying the mind and body and was the most pious yoga to practice. Red Tantra Yoga is associated with sensuality and sexual energy while Black Tantra Yoga is associated with "Ridhis and Sidhis" (use of psychic powers) and manipulation and control. Black Tantra is the most difficult form of Tantra Yoga to master as it involves controlling the minds and circumstances of people. Black Tantra is used in India to cast a spell or misfortune on people. After I came to USA and met Siri Singh Sahib Ji and practiced White Tantra Yoga, I truly understand its power and discipline. Today, there are complex and myriad forms of Tantra Yoga practices and new ones are being introduced constantly. How White Tantra Yoga Works Envision energy in the universe as parallel and perpendicular in nature, like a cloth woven together. As a cloth becomes stronger when it is stretched on the diagonal, so this White Tantra Yoga energy is diagonal or “Z” energy. This energy, when directed by the Mahan Tantric, cuts through the blocks that are stuck in the subconscious mind. See TheMahanTantric.com.
