What is maya? Temporary things you think are permanent,
permanent things you think are temporary. --Yogi Bhajan
Maya
is God's play. When you see God's
play through the Maya, it's called Liberation.
But you can't do anything to earn it or to buy it.
Liberation, like birth, occurs only by God's Grace.
Like
the raging fire of the womb within, is the
fire of Maya without: Both are alike, for both
are the plays of the Creator. When the Lord
wills, one is born into the world, to the great
joy of his relations. And then one is no longer
in tune with the Lord, and greed takes hold. Thus
Maya's play begins. This illusion of Maya makes us
forget the Lord, and love for the other fills our mind.
Those who live in the love of the Lord, through the
Guru's Grace, find the Lord in the midst of Maya. Siri Guru Granth Sahib,
3rd Guru, Guru Amar Das
From the Peace
Lagoon - Anand Sahib - Verse 29
The
Lord Himself is the Father and the Mother, who
created creatures so that they might see the world.
When one realizes reality, by the Grace of the Guru,
one comes to know this world is a mere show. Siri Guru Granth Sahib,
3rd Guru, Guru Amar Das
From the Peace
Lagoon - Anand Sahib - Verse 33
God
is nothing but your own inner consciousness.
Now I will agree with you that you cannot always
feel this God, but that is because you think that you
are separate from God. We call it Maya. Maya is the
illusion of separateness: it is the quicksand of this life.
Sometimes we sink into this quicksand and then we
need a hook; we need some guidance to help us pull
ourselves out so that we can continue our journey. The hook that we use
to do this is called the
Guru. Yogi Bhajan, the Siri
Singh Sahib of Sikh Dharma
