KUNDALINI YOGA TEACHERS

Devinderjit

My first experience with Kundalini Yoga was in 1993 in New Jersey. As soon as I moved to Orlando in 1994, I found the Kundalini Yoga School and continued taking Kundalini Yoga classes. For the next three years, I came to Sampuran’s Tuesday night class, which helped to shift and open me up emotionally and energetically. Then after my first summer solstice in New Mexico in 1997, I decided to commit to the yogic lifestyle and moved into the Baba Siri Chand Ashram. It was wonderful to be a part of a beautiful community of like-minded spiritual people. Wanting to deepen my knowledge and understanding of Kundalini Yoga, I took the teacher training program in 1999.

Shortly after that, I was introduced to Ashtanga Yoga. I loved the cleansing sweat from the constant flow of challenging poses. In 2000, I took the Ashtanga teacher training program from David Swenson. Taking this course was a huge breakthrough in both my practice and my teaching. I found the physical workout of Ashtanga Yoga to compliment the meditative quality of Kundalini Yoga.

Then in October 2002 and again in November 2003, I went on a yogic yatra to India.

I stayed in a Hindu ashram in Rishikesh, visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar, and relaxed in the Tibetan town of Dharamsala. This was the most magical of all my travels. Meeting Swami’s, dipping in the holy Ganges, hiking in the Himalayas, meditating and doing yoga every day, was truly an amazing adventure.

I have been teaching Ashtanga Yoga for two years and am currently teaching at the Kundalini Yoga School.

Acupuncture

Always knowing that I wanted to be a healer in some way, I was led to Oriental Medicine. In 1998, I decided to enroll at the Tai’ Institute of Oriental Medicine in Oviedo. I spent the next four years studying Acupuncture and Herbology. I spent the last year acquiring my Master’s degree at The National College of Oriental Medicine in Orlando.

During that last year of school, I spent 2 1⁄2 months studying in a provincial hospital in Hangzhou, China. There I studied acupuncture, herbology, internal medicine, gynecology, gastro-intestinal, tui na and pulse diagnosis. I was also able to visit some of China’s wonders like Huang Shan Mountain and the Great Wall.

Since graduating, I have continued my education in energetic medicine by studying various techniques, including BRT (Body Restoration Technique) and JMT (Jaffe-Mellor Technique.) I incorporate these tools in my acupuncture practice with quite successful results.

I have been in practice for two years, enjoying working with energy using this subtle, yet powerful technology. I really resonate with the concepts of Oriental Medicine, treating the body as a whole, correcting underlying imbalances, and allowing the body to heal itself.
